What Is the Board of Trustees?

The Board of Trustees is the official governing body of the school and is made up of seven volunteers. The Board of Trustees is responsible for creating school policy and ensuring that a quality education is delivered in alignment with the school’s charter. The board welcomes all to its public monthly meetings, the minutes of which, once approved are available in the school office and below on this web page.

When Are the Meetings for the Board of Trustees?

Board Meetings are generally held on the second Monday of each month at 5:00 p.m. They are advertised in accordance with New Jersey law. Currently, these meetings are held virtually. The link and information to access these meetings are: https://zoom.us/j/97302039768

What Are the Functions of the Board of Trustees?

The functions of a Board of Trustees, as outlined by the NJ School Boards Association, are to:

  • Develop a budget
  • Provide guidance through policy
  • The board sets policy or the WHAT (vision, goals, needs, and expectations)
  • The principal provides the HOW (hiring, evaluating, purchasing, assigning, implementing, coaching, teaching, testing, assessing)
  • To provide management oversight (hiring and evaluating the administrative principal, approving the curriculum, etc.)
  • To ensure two-way communication with administration, staff, parents, and within the Board.

Who Are the Charter School’s Board of Trustees?

Mr. Jason Apter

Mr. Apter is the president of J.L. Apter Memorial Chapels, a 4th generation funeral firm, in Sussex, Morris and Essex Counties. In addition, he holds a position as V.P. of Investments at Sovereign Global Investment Advisors in NYC and is a retired MICU Paramedic. Mr. Apter is the father of two Charter graduates and also serves on the Foundation Board of Newton Medical Center. He is a graduate of Seton Hall University and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of N.J.

Mrs. Stephanie DePinto

Board Vice President

Mrs. DePinto is a former Charter School parent, as well as the past PTO President and Fundraising Co-Chair. She is a volunteer Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and has served on the Ogdensburg First Aid Squad since 1999. Currently holding the position of Trustee, she previously held the role of President and Vice President of this non-profit organization. Mrs. DePinto earned her bachelor’s degree in Business at Centenary University.

Mr. Louis Ruggerio

Mr. Garrett Perconti

Mr. Perconti is a corporate attorney at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP in New York City. His practice focuses on Mergers and Acquisitions and international financial transactions. He holds an A.B. from Georgetown University in Government and Anthropology and he received his J.D. from Duke University School of Law.

Mr. Michael Busniak

Mr. Busniak is a NJ-licensed public health professional currently employed as a part-time lecturer at the Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers University. Mr. Busniak is the father of a Charter graduate and also serves on the Byram Township Board of Health and the Sussex County Solid Waste Advisory Council. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health from Rutgers University and a Master of Administrative Science from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
